ICAN

April is cesarean awareness month. Check out ICAN for more information about c-sections, recovery, and how to increase your chances of a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean).

I had a hard time bonding immediately with Ezra after his birth and I think this is mostly due to being rather doped up for the surgery and simply wanting to sleep rather than hold or nurse my baby. Porter’s birth story is of course night and day from Ezra’s, though I’m happy to report that I’m not playing favorites based on how each of my sons entered the world.

Check out the links on ICAN’s site and if you have had a c-section, please be informed about your options for subsequent births!

I’m so glad that you’ve recovered more quickly this time.

I had similar problems with Euan, maybe not with the bonding, but just feeling like I was moments away from collapse at any point. It took up to about 9 months to feel like I was anywhere near feeling completely normal.

A c-section is of course *major* abdominal surgery, but the doctors tend to talk about it as if it’s on an equal footing with a normal delivery, but of course the recovery time if far longer.
