Weekend update

Posted by Ashley on January 30th, 2007

All of our readers waiting on pins and needles (do we still have any readers?), please note that Bryce successfully passed his ordination exams! He is now busily writing his sermon for Sunday and thus I am writing the update. He will be officially ordained at our church on tax day, 15 April. Feel free to come (and maybe he’ll wear his kilt!!) if you’re in California.

We’re hibernating…

Don’t worry, it’s not cold in California. But, Bryce just found out last week that he’ll be undergoing his ordination exams on Saturday. This means writing two written exams prior to Thursday, sending a few of his seminary papers to the committee and then being interviewed for a number of hours this coming Saturday. So, needless to say, we’ll just be trying to survive until then as Bryce is studying! We’ll be back shortly. :)

N.T. Wright is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors. Here’s a quote from a recent interview he did with Christianity Today:

The Gnostic conspiracy theory says that orthodoxy hushed up the really exciting thing and promoted this boring sterile thing with Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. And of course there’s a great lie underneath that. In the second and third centuries, the people being thrown to the lions and burned at the stake and sawed in two were not the ones reading Thomas and Judas and the Gospel of Philip and the Gospel of Mary. They were the ones reading Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Because the empire is perfectly happy with Gnosticism. Gnosticism poses no threat to the empire. Whereas Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John do. It’s the church’s shame that in the last 200 years, the church has muzzled Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John and turned them into instruments of a controlling, sterile orthodoxy. But the texts themselves are explosive.

Maybe it’s just because I kinda missed Halloween this year, but this is the scariest thing I’ve seen in a long time…

A little bit of Britain

Football (or soccer) in the US just got a whole lot more interesting. David Beckham and Posh are moving to LA next summer as Beckham signed up to play for the LA Galaxy for 5 years. I doubt very much that the $250 million contract and the proximity to Hollywood had much to do with the decision. :)
