We’re back

We flew without a hitch from Edinburgh to Newark and then on to LA. Trying to stay up in the plane was fruitless but thankfully that still meant we were still tired enough to sleep when we arrived home to Bryce’s parents’ at midnight. Yesterday began THE GREAT CAR SEARCH. We decided that if Verizon (our cell phone provider) sold cars we’d be set, as it only took about 15 minutes to get us phone numbers and get outfitted with phones, chargers and ear-pieces. We feel pretty official.

Today begins THE GREAT FLAT HUNT. I have a feeling we might be more lucky on this front. One thing I’ve noticed — besides the crazy heat — is that business people seem much more casual here. Not in their clothing per se, but in their attitude and that all of a sudden when I’m chatting with the sales clerk it’s like we’re friends or something.

More to follow.

Great to hear you got back safely, luggage too! There seems to be heatwaves everywhere and power cuts, I hope you’re not too badly affected by all that and that you manage to acclimatise easily.

Finding a vehicle was frustrating for us, after three and a half years without one. . . We paid cash for a minivan, and in less than a month, some guy ran into it and totalled it. Even with the insurance check, we had to get a loan for our next minivan. *sigh* Ah, to be back in the land of public transport and cheap taxis and everything vital within walking distance. . .

Thanks everyone for the welcome and TulipGirl, I’m completely with you re: public transport. We hope someday to move to downtown LA and then at least I can take the train. I guess it’s only if more people start using public transport that it will become a viable option for people.
