The Death of an Online Book Club?
I feel like my little online book club is dying. There hasn’t been too much discussion and I don’t know if the online format is totally wrong for doing a book club, or if there’s another way to have an online book club that would be much better than how it’s working now. Anyone have any ideas??? How do I breathe life into my poor little book club?
Also, feel free to post ideas about the next book we can look at. I figure that at the very least, the club is getting people to read good literature and that’s a start! Oh, and feel free to join the book club (link at left)–anyone can join, people I know, people I don’t know, people I pseudo-know. Also more general discussion can take place under the topic “a bookish brew”, so feel free to post your own topics there!

Ashley - I feel partly responsible for the lack of commentage on the book club. I did read, but, well, maybe it’s because we’re busy? Or because when it’s an in-person book club, people *have* to say things or else they just sit there in uncomfortable silence.

Yeah, I know, so how can we make this work? I want it to work, to allow those not “in school” to have the accountability and resources available to them to read good literature and to think about how it reflects in their own lives.

Don’t give it up, I think it’s great! Let’s maybe move on to the next book. Would having a “chat” be too hard to organize? I think that it is interesting to read all the comments, etc. This is just our first book, so we have plenty of time to learn and grow.

Carolyn - I think the chat is a great idea. As long as there was enough advance notice (and as long as we could figure out a time that worked in both time zones!), I would love that. ~K

Another idea: would an email group work better? That way you’d subscribe to an email list and posts would be sent through email instead of on a message board. That may facilitate chatting…what do you think?
