Questions to leave you with as we travel
What’s your favourite book? (or just one you keep coming back to…) And, why do you like it?
If you were to write a book (or write a song, or whatever) what would it be about?
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
If jobs (etc) weren’t a consideration, would you live in the city, suburb, or country, and why?
Do you think having favourites (of anything, books, colours, food, etc) are important?
I expect some good comments by the time we return to Edinburgh.

Although I can’t pick a favorite, one I keep coming back to is Stones from the River by Ursula Hegi.

1. 100 Years of solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is probably my favorite book.
2. I would write about Scott.
3. I would go to Africa and observe wildlife (hopefully from a hot air balloon). But close by too.
4. The country, for sure. Kids need a place to dig, you know?
5. Yes, I think it’s important. It helps form your identity. Not to say you don’t have an identity without them, but having them helps remind you who you are even if others begin pressuring you to be somebody else.
Have a great trip!

book: Traveling Mercies Anne Lamott or Ex Libris: Confessions of a Common Reader by Anne Fadiman. (both books that I could read over and over again.)
writing: I like to write about absurd things. I’d probably write about someone in love with a kangaroo who was also allergic to water.
travel: I’d like to go to India and Ireland. And maybe Iowa, too.
job: probably city like Portland or city/country like Iowa City.
having favorites probably is a good way to define self. it’s important to know what you prefer. it’s also fun to mointor how favorites change.

Book: no particular favorite to which I keep coming back, but I do find favorite authors like Michner, Ludlum and Grisham and read many of their novels.
Writing: it would definitely be a mystery/thriller like the Bourne identity.
Travel: Seychelles, New Zealand, Micronesia, Tahiti, Bali again, cruise Alaska, railtour across Cananda, Amsterdam, Paris for a romantic getaway, the coast of Italy for eating and wine tasting, Costa Rica and Nicaragua to check out properties.
Where to live: either the country with the Sierras or Rockies as a backdrop or a quiet beach/ocean scene (note my desire to check out Costa Rica and Nicaragua).
Are Fav’s important: they allow you to make quicker choices when the menu is 50 pages long or the trousers come in colors from orange to blue. So, yes. The also help other know you and gift you.

So, I was wondering, as you journied forth to Ireland, did you miss the Fourth on the Firth of Forth or did you merely celebrate in an Irish pub with a pint or even a fifth or in Ireland or Scotland is the fourth merely like the fifth?

Book: My Antonia / Willa Cather
write a song / about colors
Travel: tons of places I want to go: Istanbul, Bali, Fiji, Portugal, South America and Africa cause I’ve never been! etc.!
where would I live: the country…slow pace and beautiful
why are favorites important? They probably help you to define your own tastes - but I think that it is important to try out many new things before defining your favorites so as not to be restrictive…
I like these questions and hope that your time in Ireland was smashing! Love, Mom

Thanks all! Our trips were great; Bryce was off to London while I was up north in Scotland w/ his fam. Then we all went to Ireland–beautiful and I got to ride a horse! Then we went to Cambridge for 2 days for a friend’s wedding. Fun times…I’ll blog later. Now I have to clean while Bryce is grocery shopping and do some work since we slept in super late.
