St. Andrew’s and St. George’s Church has a once-a-year massive book sale. We stood in a long queque before it opened at 10 AM and then flooded into the church. We elbowed and tried to push our way into the Christian Theology, Biblical Studies, Literature, and Literary Criticism sections to quickly snatch up our favourites. Bryce’s happiest pick: Martin Luther’s Commentary on Galatians. Ashley’s favourite: finding the Oxford Book of Literary Anecdotes for 1 GBP as it’s now out of print. We’ll probably go back next week (today was the opening day; the fair continues Monday to Friday next week) to see what else they bring out for us book fiends. We were giddy as we were walking home with books in tow!
P.S. On the online reading group forum (link at left), check out a new thread under “A Bookish Brew”: post your favourite reads (inspired by our acquisition of lots of books today)!
Ashley - If you run into any books on English Interior Design or Old World English, Manor House or Country Kitchens or on English Cottage Gardening could you please get them for me. Also any on Watercolour or other art books you might think I would like. Will pay you back! Love, Mom
I picked up a few more books today en route to studying at the National Library: Thoreau’s Walden, a book called From Sensibility to Romanticism, Doctor Zhivago (figured I should read it at some point and it was only 75p), The Essays of Emerson, an art book called The Art of Seascapes, and one for my mom called The New English Woman’s Garden by Alvilde Lees-Milne and Rosemary Verey. Bryce picked up more books yesterday and now two of his shelves on our newer bookshelf are full! He’ll probably stop by the book sale after his final today, too. Gosh, it’s hard to resist an amazing book sale!
